Sounds simple, doesn't it? You tell a story up to a point when you're actually part of it, and on the other side your friend replies "Oh, just forget it". Is your friend being bitchy or are you being stupid? Between love and hate there is a big garden full of good reasons to forget. Still you can't do it, can you? Move on, let go, and do your best to handle the fact that forgetting, totally and completely, may never happen. Live your life fully, keep it real. Look for new dreams and try to make them come true. Stop asking people not to forget you - that's certainly more selfish than your most selfish thought if the thinking of you hurts somewhere else.
We know that some people think about us the same way we think about other people, that's old news:

"

What you might not know is that love and romance are two very different things. Some silly guy once came up with a sarcastic theory called romantic love... and all sensitive creatures have been suffering ever since. Well, not all of them. Some write, some paint, some punch others in the face, some do voluntary work in Africa... and all of them have sex. No one cares what you're gonna do, as long as you survive this. In other words, we shall overcome even if we don't forget, REMEMBER. Otherwise... just forget it.
